The Jammu and Kashmir State Nursing Council was established by the Jammu and Kashmir Paramedical / Nursing Council Act, 2014. The Act was received assent from the Lieutenant Governor on October 14, 2024, and published in the Government Gazette on October 16, 2024. The primary purpose of the council is to regulate the registration, training, and qualification of nurses, midwives, and health visitors within the state.

The MMPHW (Male Multipurpose Health Worker) course is a paramedical program focused on training individuals to work at the grassroots level of healthcare, particularly in rural and underserved areas. It equips students with skills in disease prevention and control, environmental sanitation, health education, and basic first aid. The course is typically 18 months long and requires a 10th-grade (Matric) education as a minimum qualification.
Eligibility: Candidates should have passed their 10th-grade (Matric) examination.
